Are you a mission-driven operations leader who thrives at the intersection of people, systems, and community impact? Second Light is seeking a Director of Campus Operations to lead the day-to-day operations of a first-of-its-kind, multi-agency campus serving individuals experiencing homelessness in Wichita, Kansas.

This role is more than operational management—it’s about creating a safe, dignified, and outcome-driven experience for every guest who walks through our doors.

Position Summary: The Director of Campus Operations is the senior operations leader responsible for managing day-to-day shelter and multi-agency operations and ensuring a safe, dignified, and outcome-driven guest experience across the campus. This role operationalizes the organization’s mission, vision, and values by setting and enforcing policies, overseeing programs and workflows, supervising staff and peer services, and coordinating service delivery with community partners.

Serving as a key liaison among guests, staff, partner agencies, and external stakeholders, the Director addresses service gaps, resolves operational challenges, and leads continuous improvement efforts grounded in data and best practices in homeless services. The Director of Campus Operations is accountable for operational excellence, partner alignment, and fostering a collaborative campus culture centered on equity, accountability, and respect for all guests. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Second Light is a community-driven initiative designed to provide comprehensive services and support for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Going beyond being a temporary safe place and shelter, Second Light is a one-stop resource hub that brings together multiple service providers offering wrap-around support to individuals that help them take the next steps towards healing and housing.

Second Light provides shelter and connects people with services across mental health, healthcare, substance use recovery, housing, and employment—all under one roof. Our mission is to empower each guest with the tools and support they need to move toward stable housing and long-term well-being.

  • Master’s level degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field
  • Preferred: Valid license with state of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board
  • Two years’ leadership experience in non-profit or government work
  • Two years’ experience with coalition work focused on improving social outcomes
  • Two years’ experience working with individuals in poverty
  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure the shelter’s mission, vision, and values are at the center of all operations and decision making
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives in alignment with community and partner needs and best practices in homeless services
  • Promote a culture of dignity, equity, accountability, and collaboration among staff, partners, volunteers, and guests
  • Serve as a representative of the shelter in community coalitions, task forces, and provider networks addressing homelessness, housing, and supportive services
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with service providers, healthcare systems, behavioral health organizations, City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, and other community-based organizations
  • Support all partner organizations and agencies by ensuring they have the resources needed to be successful on Second Light’s campus
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support to volunteers and student interns working at Second Light
  • Support campus-wide policies and procedures for guests, visitors, programming, and partner organizations
  • Act as liaison for inquiries regarding campus policies and procedures, partnership opportunities, and service agreements, addressing the needs of all partner agencies and organizations
  • Coordinate directly with contractors, partners, and vendors to ensure safety, accessibility, and continuous facility operations
  • Support discussions regarding service gaps, conflicts, and disagreements with partner organizations through a collaborative and data-driven process
  • Make decisions regarding day-to-day operations and workflows
  • Monitor programmatic outputs and outcomes to ensure mission success
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities with partners for mission alignment and success
  • Collaborate with community providers to design and expand programs that meet client needs, such as case management, supportive housing, mental health care, and workforce readiness
  • Supervise other professional staff that support shelter operations
  • Build relationships with guests and serve as point of contact for concerns regarding safety, grievances, or other issues
  • Coordinate service delivery for a positive and outcome-driven guest experience
  • Facilitate case-conferencing for guests and partner coordination
  • Provide coordination and supervision of peer services at Second Light

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday but will require flexibility for regular evening or weekend commitments.
