Learn more about Second Light Shelter + Services, Wichita’s community-driven initiative to provide comprehensive services for people who are homeless.

At any point, nearly 800 people in our community are homeless, and the needs are increasing every year. This model was launched as a community-driven initiative to help our unhoused neighbors on a path toward healing and housing and achieve functional zero homelessness.

Your support from this event will help fund an additional Housing Case Manager.

Safety and Security

For the safety and convenience of our guests, this event will be enforcing a Clear Bag Policy and enhanced entry screening procedures.

This document explains permitted items, required entry screening, inspection procedures, and what guests should expect.

What Is Permitted

  • Clear bags up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches are permitted in the facility.
  • Clutch purses up to 5 x 8 inches are permitted.
  • One approved bag per patron is allowed.
  • Diaper bags for children accompanied by adults and medical bags will be allowed after inspection.
  • Clear bags may not contain additional bags, purses, or pouches of any kind.

Entry Screening Requirements

  • All patrons must pass through magnetometers or other scanning devices as a condition of entry.
  • All patrons and their belongings are subject to search. Searches may include handheld wand screening, bag inspections, pat-downs, or other reasonable screening methods conducted by security personnel.
  • Patrons who decline screening or who fail to comply with screening procedures may be denied entry.

Enforcement and Inspections

  • Security staff will inspect diaper and medical bags to confirm contents and necessity.
  • Patrons found carrying prohibited items or non-approved bags will be denied entry or asked to remove the items from the facility.

Prohibited Items and Storage

  • Any bag larger than the permitted dimensions or any non-approved bag type is prohibited unless explicitly authorized by Century II staff.
  • The venue does not provide storage for prohibited or confiscated items.Patrons should plan accordingly.

Accessibility, Medical Needs, and Special Accommodations

  • Patrons with medical needs should bring documentation or be prepared to explain the necessity of medical bags during inspection.
  • If a patron requires an accommodation that affects screening (for example, a medical device), please contact Century II staff or the event organizer in advance so arrangements can be made.

  • Plan ahead: Bring only one approved bag per person and ensure it meets the size and material requirements.
  • Arrive early: Enhanced screening may increase entry wait times.
  • Questions: Contact your event organizer or Century II staff for clarification on a particular event’s policy or for assistance with accessibility or medical accommodations.
